» Inclusive Coaches opportunity supported by London Youth Games

Applications are now open for our LYG 2025 Inclusive Coaches Programme. London Youth Games Inclusive Coaches is a growing community of diverse coaches developing, connecting and championing inclusive sports delivery within London Youth Games and beyond. We are looking for coaches and aspiring coaches in London who are a minimum of 18 years. Coaches and instructors from all sport and movement backgrounds welcome with A Level 1 equivalent in any sport and/or experience in an educational setting desired.

» Compassionate care for all - Improving adult community specialist palliative care in north west London

As you know, NHS North West London has been asking residents to share their views on proposed improvements to adult community specialist palliative care services, as part of our commitment to provide compassionate, high-quality support for people with a life-limiting illnesses, for which there is no cure. With less than one month to go, we want to make sure as many people as possible have the opportunity to respond and give their views.

Central and North West London (CNWL) NHS Trust has Mental Health Ward Volunteer opportunities at St Charles Hospital - Mental Health Centre. This role is part of their VtC programme, which is designed to give volunteers practical experience in mental health care while supporting our incredible teams. Volunteers help with tasks like organising recreational activities, assisting with practical tasks, and providing general ward support - all under the guidance of our wonderful staff.

» Carers Network Job Opportunities (apply by 03.03.2025)

Carers Network currently have two job opportunities: Carers Caseworker - providing unpaid carers with support, by providing a confidential listening ear and one-to-one information and advice; and Information, Advice and Guidance Officer providing unpaid adult carers with support on a variety of subjects such as carers’ rights and entitlements, basic welfare benefits information, making sense of forms and paperwork, or accessing support for the person they look after.

This is a follow-up on the community projects that One Westminster have been advertising to Westminster Responsible Businesses this winter. » 2025 BMA Foundation grants to open on 1 February 2025

The BMA Foundation awards research grants each year (this year totalling almost £1 million) to encourage and further medical research in a variety of areas. One of these grants, the Dawkins and Strutt grant, is to assist research into gender and race bias in clinical decision making in healthcare. This grant, and other BMA Foundation grants will open soon for online application via the BMA Foundation website. The application deadline is 16 March 2025.

The four NHS Cancer Alliances in London – including RM Partners North West and South West London Cancer Alliance – have teamed up to launch a media campaign to debunk the common misconceptions about cervical cancer and screening, in a bid to encourage Londoners to attend their cervical screening appointment when invited.

The K&C Fraud newsletter contains information and figures of fraud cases in the borough including useful information about how to protect yourself against fraud crimes.

» Opportunity to run workshops on a canal boat at the end of February

An opportunity is arriving on the canal by Meanwhile Gardens in Golborne in the last week of February to run a 90-min workshop or workshops for up to 10 people on a visiting community canal boat. Workshops could be for a closed group you already have in mind, or advertised for public access. The focus of the week is on arts, education and health/wellbeing.

» CARE CHAMPIONS - Communities Against Racism and Extremism FREE professionals session (11.02.2025)

Working in partnership with Westminster Prevent, Exit Hate will be hosting an online CARE CHAMPIONS session, during Prevent Awareness Week and on Internet Safety day. DATE - 11.02.2025. TIME - 13:00 - 15:00. As we know, individuals are being groomed and radicalised on and offline. It will be your opportunity to hear from someone who was involved with a variety of Extreme Right Wing (ERW) groups, giving an in-depth view of what the ERW is, how it recruits, operates and what its ultimate goals are and the different types of organisations/ideologies.

» Volunteers Needed For Research On Men's Health

This research explores the views held by Afro-Caribbean men aged 50 and over towards attending the doctor for men’s health issues. Participation involves a 10–15 minute online questionnaire. All participant responses are anonymous. Upon completion you can opt-in to be entered into a £25 Amazon gift voucher draw.

» Share your views on medical relationships, disease symptoms, hormones, and health

A series of studies conducted by researchers in the Primary Care Unit, Department of Public Health and Primary Care, are exploring the publics’ views on medical relationships, disease symptoms, hormones and health. The studies are designed to capture the views of clinicians, people with an autoimmune disease, and people who do not have an autoimmune disease. Everyone who completes the survey can choose to be entered into a prize draw with two prizes of £200.

» Applications are open for the Community Contribution Fund

Westminster City Council has announced that the Community Contribution Fund is open for applications until 13th February. This fund is available exclusively for Westminster-based schools, voluntary and community organisations – you may be able to apply for up to £25,000.

» Over £400k awarded by Westminster Brighter Futures Fund

Young Westminster Foundation is pleased to announce that 32 grants totalling £419,139 have been awarded to youth organisations across Westminster in the sixth round of the Westminster Brighter Futures Fund. This investment will provide invaluable support for Westminster’s young people and their families over the coming 12 months. The Fund has become a vital lifeline for many organisations in Westminster who experience great demand for their services against a backdrop of financial uncertainty.

» Opportunity for someone with lived experience to Join NICE committee! (apply by 09.02.2025)

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) produces guidance on the most effective ways to prevent, diagnose and treat disease and ill health, and provide social care support. We are currently looking for someone with lived experience (people who have been patients, parents, unpaid carers, people who use health and care services or community members) and their advocates (currently referred to as ‘lay members’ at NICE) to join the committee who develop NICE’s quality standards.

Shifaá Healing Hearts Counselling (SHHC) service's aim is to create a safe and compassionate space for people from all backgrounds where they can find healing and hope. SHHC offers counselling through an intercultural lens to support clients in exploring their well-being and relational challenges while respecting and honouring each individual’s unique experiences, cultures, and values, to help them navigate trauma, identity, and family dynamics with care and confidence.

» Imperial BRC Public Involvement Prize 2024

The winner of the NIHR Imperial BRC Public Involvement in Research Competition 2024 was announced early this month. The project titled, "Addressing ethnic inequities in maternity care for Black, African, Caribbean, and mixed-Black families through co-production within the North West London integrated care system", won the competition.

» Report Launch: Building Resilient Communities: The Case for Social Cohesion

On the 2nd December the London Resilience Unit launched their new report Building Resilient Communities: The Case for Social Cohesion. The report was produced by Protection Approaches with input from over 100 submissions in our call for evidence on good practice on social cohesion and community resilience.

» HaferiVax Vaccine Hesitancy Training (23.01 and 27.02)

Do you want to have better conversations about vaccines? H&F Health Protection team are running monthly Vaccination Conversation training which uses the Empathetic Refutational Interviewing approach. The training is about improving confidence and competence with vaccine conversations through: Eliciting concerns; Affirmation; Tailored Refutation and Factual Information.

» NHS NWL ICB - Bi-Borough collaborative Space relaunch

As of September 2nd NHS North West London completed its organisation restructure. One of the consequences of this has been a slight change in the boroughs that our engagement team support. My name is James Connell and I am now the Senior Involvement Manager for Westminster, Hammersmith & Fulham, Kensington & Chelsea, and Hounslow.

» Unfold Volunteer Mentor Opportunities (posted 25.10.24)

Unfold is a charity based in Westminster, Kensington and Chelsea that offers mentoring and support groups for young people aged 10-25 and mothers with children aged 5+. We are currently recruiting for volunteer mentors, particularly those interested in mentoring mothers.

» Martha's Rule Pilot at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital

Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust has been chosen as one of the pilot sites for the rollout of Martha's Rule, an NHS England, nationwide initiative. We are proud to launch this service as part of our work to create a patient-centred safety culture that amplifies patients' voices. As of Monday 30 September, our 24/7 patient care escalation phone line is be open to inpatients receiving care at both Chelsea and Westminster and West Middlesex University Hospitals, as well as their relatives and carers who may be concerned about their clinical condition.

» PAPYRUS Prevention of Young Suicide (added 18.10.24)

PAPYRUS Prevention of Young Suicide is a national charity that spreads the message of hope. They support young people (under 35s) living with suicidal thoughts and concerned others/professionals who are seeking guidance to support their young person. Papyrus train a lot of people within healthcare, education and anybody who is interested in suicide prevention - they offer a free 30-minute suicide awareness training session called a SP-ARK

» Westminster website now translates in 20 languages

The Westminster City Council website now has a translate button at the top which gives translation of all pages in 20 languages. The translation is through google translate - so it is not going to be perfect, but it may help with sharing information with a resident who doesn't speak English. Also they would be keen to have some feedback about whether people find it useful or not, and anything that could be improved.

» New Workwell programme -supporting people into employment

WorkWell is a free service for people who are in a job or looking for one but need support with health-related challenges. We’ll work with you to figure out what you need, offering support from our team and other local services. Our Work and Health Coach will make sure you get the right support to find or stay in the right job.

» Support and resources for potential refugee from Lebanon and Gaza

» Women's Hub at Victoria Library, Mondays 11am - 3.30pm

Beginning Monday, 16th September 2024, FOR WOMEN will host a weekly Women's Hub every week from 11:00 AM to 3:30 PM. It's a welcoming space where women can relax, listen to various talks, enjoy refreshments, and seek advice and guidance. The environment is warm, welcoming and calm. It's like our home! Come and enjoy!

The BME Health Forum was commissioned by Rethink and the NHS to work in collaboration with four BME grassroot organisations to conduct a survey regarding suicide prevention and mental health with one hundred residents. The survey was conducted during October 2023-March 2024. You can now read the final report of the survey findings which is also available to download from our website.

Waterloo Community Counselling's Low-Cost Counselling services offer long-term talking therapy at reduced fees. Our unique Multi-Ethnic Counselling Service (MECS) provides free mother-tongue counselling to migrants, refugees and asylum seekers who have survived exile, torture, human trafficking and modern slavery in 34 languages.

The NHS Path to Remission Programme is a free 12-month programme designed to provide you with all the tools you need to help you lose weight, control your blood sugar, reduce your medication and potentially put your diabetes in remission. In North West London the programme is currently being provided by Counterweight.

» Supporting people with different needs to access London Ambulances Services

It is recognised that in many cases a number of callers to emergency services may not have English as their first language. In such instances, a third party language translation service may be used to assist the EMD (Emergency Medical Dispatcher) in taking the details of the call (at the point of the 999 or 111 call) . [This is done by conferencing in the interpreter once the language required is confirmed].
