Latent TB Project
TB Alert, the UK’s national tuberculosis charity, was commissioned by NHS England in partnership with Public Health England to support selected CCGs to increase demand for and uptake of latent TB testing and treatment.
The people who are at risk of being latent carriers are those who come from South East Asia and Sub Saharan African countries and have moved to the UK in the last 5 years – or people from those countries who have visited them for 6 months accumulatively in the last 5 years and are under 36 years of age.
Th BME Health Forum was approached to support TB Alert to reach out to carriers of latent TB who don’t yet know to get themselves tested and vaccinated.
The project involved working with community organisations to run focus groups/ reach out to the relevant client groups to ensure that people know to get tested and vaccinated.
The BME Health Forum worked with Migrants Organise to deliver the project. 20 people were given training by the BME Health Forum and TB alert to support them to reach out to the community and inform them about the issues around latent TB.
