Multilingual Emotional Support Service (North Kensington)
Funded by RBKC, this service is delivered by a partnership of five community organisations serving North Kensington, coordinated by the BME Health Forum, to provide ongoing emotional support for some of the area’s most vulnerable residents, especially those whose first language is Arabic, Tigrinya, French or Lingala.
The service is for North Kensington residents who have mental health needs which cannot be met by NHS services because of language, stigma, cultural barriers or because the residents need long-term holistic care that combines emotional support with elements of practical help and befriending.
Priority is given to:
- women who have experienced or are experiencing domestic abuse and are reluctant to seek help from mainstream services
- women who are divorced or seeking divorce and experiencing stigma • people with anxiety/depression, unable to get effective support from the NHS
- People who have recently developed an illness or disability and are isolated
- People who have experienced family breakdown and are lonely or isolated
Support is provided according to the needs of each resident until the project ends on 25 June 2023 and may be face to face, online, and/or by telephone. Face to face activities will take place in the community centres of the partner organisations:
