African Women Care
African Women Care (AWC) was established in July 1998 primarily as a self help group to deal with issues affecting women and children from the Black African Community living in the UK. Our work addresses issues of poverty, disadvantage, women’s disempowerment, unemployment, health, social exclusion and skills development.
Specifically we offer:
- Advice, information, support and advocacy including outreach work enabling women to access services in the area of health, social care, housing and welfare benefits.
- Provide support services counselling and mentoring for women who have experienced or affected by domestic violence.
- We run befriending service to provide home and hospital visits through an existing pool of committed volunteers for women with terminal or life-threatening illnesses.
