KMEWO is providing Free, confidential and non-judgmental services in a safe and friendly environment for Kurdish and Middle Eastern women.

Language provision:
English, Arabic and Kurdish- Sorani, Farsi, Dari, and Turkish speaking volunteers could be arranged on request.
KMEWO accepts self referrals, referrals from family, friends or agencies with the consent of the client. [MORE INFO]

Education & Training

As part of empowering women’s aims KMEWO is funded by Big Lottery to provide educational courses to women who cannot otherwise access mainstream education because of barriers such as;

Language and/or cultural barriers
Domestic violence
Racism
Lack of opportunities
Lack of information
Family / childcare responsibilities
Poverty
Immigration issues

Classes are delivered at venues where women and girls meet for social, cultural or religious reasons. [MORE INFO]

Campaigning and Lobbying

We campaign and lobby for the government, members of parliament, local authorities and other statutory bodies for strong action against honour based violence, domestic violence, forced marriages, female genital mutilation and other forms of abuses against women and girls. We do this by carrying out primary and desk research, sending letters and press releases, giving interviews to the press and TV, and give talks to parents and schools about unacceptable traditional practices. Interpretation & Translation

We continue to provide interpreting and translation support to Kurdish, Middle Eastern and North Africa women at interviews with various organisations, e.g. the police, solicitors, colleges, Hosing department, Refugee, Job Centre plus etc. to carry out interpreting and translation on their behalf. This is still very much an important and ever increasing part of our workload. [MORE INFO]
