Dementia Advisor Service in Westminster
The Westminster Dementia Adviser service provides advice, information and guidance to those who have received a diagnosis of dementia, as well as their families and supporters.
As well as working in partnership with NHS Westminster Memory Service, the Dementia Adviser works with those with suspected memory problems prior to diagnosis, and those who have been diagnosed by other services.
The Dementia Adviser is a continuous point of contact for as long as is needed. The service is free, you do not need to be referred, and you can contact the service as and when the need arises. The service provides information and guidance at all stages of a dementia illness to help people feel informed and able to access appropriate help when needed. The service can also signpost people to more specialist services when required. Examples of where the Dementia Adviser may be able to help are:
- Understanding and managing the symptoms of dementia
- Providing information about local clubs, activities and day centres for older people
- Provide guidance on how to access Adult Social Services for self funders as well as those receiving benefits
- Provide information about travel in Westminster
- Providing information about financial support and legal issues linked with dementia
- Provide information about housing options
- Provide information about carers groups and specialist information sessions
- Distribution of the Westminster Dementia Guide (available from October 2010)
