London Resilience Newsletter - June 2026

mayor of london london resilience.pngWelcome to the London Resilience Newsletter.

Last week saw the highest June temperatures in the UK on record, with a heatwave causing significant disruption in London. We want to thank the London Ambulance Service, London Fire Brigade, those running Cool Spaces across London and everybody who supported the response.

London Climate Action Week this month saw more than 1,300 events take place across the city, the biggest climate action week internationally. During the week the Mayor of London launched Heat Ready London, a new plan for our city on adapting to a warmer climate.

Sunday 14th June marked 9 years since the Grenfell Tower Fire tragedy, with Londoners coming together for the annual Grenfell Silent Walk in North Kensington. This tragedy should always remind us to focus our efforts on community justice.

In this addition of the newsletter, you will find a range of fantastic opportunities - from open grant funds, free first aid training, community exercising training, a business exercise, a cyber resilience workshop and informational reports and plans.

Read on to find out more.

Heat Ready London Plan

Hotter temperatures are becoming a growing reality in London. In May 2026, the temperature in London broke records for two consecutive days and England experienced its warmest spring on record. This was not an isolated incident. The warning signs are mounting.

That's why the Greater London Authority has developed Heat Ready London. It sets out a shared vision across six key sectors. It is a call to action from the Mayor to partners across London, to drive collective delivery, to protect lives, strengthen the resilience of our city, and ensure London remains a place where everyone can thrive.

Introduction to Community Scenario Exercising

How can scenario exercises help communities prepare for real-life emergencies?

This webinar workshop on Thursday 30th July at 1:00pm will explore how practicing emergency scenarios (e.g. for heatwaves, civil unrest, power outages) can bring people together, build confidence, and strengthen local preparedness.

Scenario exercises offer a hands-on, engaging way for communities to test their plans, spot gaps, and grow more resilient before a real crisis hits.

Led by Katherine Hill from the British Red Cross, the session will share how to design meaningful community exercises, create realistic scenarios, and involve local partners. You will also hear inspiring real-world examples of communities learning, adapting, and becoming stronger through practice.

Open to community groups, volunteers, local authorities, and partners from across and outside London.

Register as a Cool Space

The Mayor has developed a map of Cool Spaces across London, helping residents quickly locate places to find respite from the heat.

Cool Spaces are indoor or outdoor areas where people can seek relief during periods of extreme heat. Following the record-breaking 40°C heatwave in July 2022, these spaces have become a vital part of London’s climate resilience efforts.

How to take part

To be included in the 2026 Cool Spaces map, please complete the registration form. Once reviewed, your venue will be added to the official map.

We are particularly keen to hear from organisations that can offer spaces with the following:

  • Open access to all members of the public

  • Free drinking water available

  • A safe place for people to rest and recover at no cost

The map will be live from 1st June - 30th September 2026, with your venue’s location and opening hours made publicly available, to help Londoners find their nearest location.
