WINTER PREPAREDNESS

As we head further into the winter months, we highlight some helpful resources and support available on winter preparedness. Please do share with your communities.

Every year, the London Communities Emergencies Partnership (LCEP) hosts a winter preparedness workshop to help charities and community groups prepare for the colder months. This year, the workshop was organised alongside the London Boroughs Faiths Network.

With speakers from the Met Office, UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA), Age UK London, British Red Cross, and more, you can watch the presentation and access additional resources here. LCEP also has a bank of cold weather resources, from Cold Health Alerts to supporting vulnerable people, on their Climate Hub.

We’d like to once again share the the Met Office’s WeatherReady bank of materials dedicated to potential issues arising from severe weather, including what to do in a flood and how to get your home and property winter ready.

Additionally, the GLA also has a Cost of Living Hub, which contains helpful information around managing increases in fuel costs, family childcare and food support, and much more.

LONDON FIRE BRIGADE RISK ASSESSMENT FOCUS GROUP

Each year London Fire Brigade (LFB) produces an Assessment of Risk using data to categorise their current understanding of the risks affecting London.

Part of the Assessment of Risk is a section on the public perception of risk - what communities across London say they feel are the biggest concerns in their own lives. LFB are holding a public focus group, where they will speak to attendees about different risks, and record how concerned people feel about each one. The results will form part of the public perception of risk section of LFB’s Assessment of Risk 2025 – ensuring communities’ voices are at the centre of the planning.

The session will be hosted online on Thursday 5th December 2024, and you can sign up at this link.

MIGRANT LONDONERS RESEARCH SURVEY

The London Resilience Unit has commissioned a new Community Resilience Migrant Londoners Research and Engagement Project.

Insights gained from this project will help us understand the role of organisations in supporting the resilience of migrant Londoner communities, and their engagement with formal resilience structures for London. To take part, complete this survey and be entered into a £100 prize draw here.

SUMMER REFLECTIONS

Read the LCEP reflections on their summer responses, which included learning from the Grenfell Inquiry phase two report and responding to racist riots over summer.

On 20th November, the ‘After the Riots’ Summit saw cohesion organisations Belong, British Future and the Together Coalition bring together cohesion experts and grassroots practitioners from across the country to the London summit, to discuss this summer’s racist disorder and how to build greater cohesion and resilience in communities to prevent it happening again. You can read about the summit and the ‘After the Riots’ report here.

LCEP ENGAGEMENT SURVEY

LCEP are asking everyone who has engaged with them in 2024 to complete a quick survey. It’ll only takes 10 minutes of your time, and it will enable them to see where they are making a difference and where they need to improve.
