Please see below details of a range of Learning Sessions being offered by the Safeguard Children's Board over 2025.

Female Genital Mutilation in the Middle East and Northern Africa

Date: Friday 7th February 2025

Time: 10am – 12 noon

Where: Online via Zoom

1.Have an increased awareness and understanding, in identifying and responding to female genital mutilation and harmful practices.

2. Be more confident to identify women and girls who are at risk of female genital mutilation and harmful practices.

3. Learn about the services and support available to women and girls at risk of female genital mutilation and harmful practices.

4. Learn about how to talk about and support families where female genital mutilation and harmful practices are a risk.

Parental Substance Use and the Impact on Children

Date: Wednesday 5th February 2025

Audience: All practitioners working with children and families

This full-day workshop, delivered by practitioners from Tuning Point, will explore parental substance use and what this means. It is focused how to identify hidden harm/ risks/ working with parents who are using drugs or alcohol.

Learning Outcomes

  • Identify the different types of drugs and their effects
  • Identify impacts of parental use on children across range of areas
  • Developing and understand the assessment framework
  • Identify sources of further support for parents and professionals working with them
  • Stronger understanding of how drugs and alcohol can affect parenting

 

Safer Recruitment Refresher

When: Tue 11th March 2025 2pm – 5pm

Wed 4th June 2025 9.30am - 12pm

Thu 13th Nov 2025 1.30pm – 4.30pm

Wed 11th Feb 2026 9.30am – 12.30pm

Where:              Kensington Town Hall

Trainers:           Safeguarding in Education lead (LBHF) and LSCP Trainer

Audience:       Only open to managers and practitioners who have completed the full-day Safer Recruitment workshop previously (this will be checked).

This half-day workshop is accredited by the Lucy Faithfull foundation and is only suitable for people who have completed a Safer Recruitment workshop beforeYou will be asked to show a certificate of completion, particularly if you did not attend locally.

Learning Outcomes

At the end of the workshop, delegates will:

  • Have an awareness of the need for safer recruitment
  • Be aware of the means by which unsuitable people can gain access to children and vulnerable people
  • Be aware of the means by which safer recruitment can be achieved
  • Be aware of the processes for handling allegations against staff in order that staff have the confidence to identify those who may pose a risk to children and vulnerable people, and so that staff will know what to do if/when they have to deal with these issues.
