Welcome to the first RM Partners People and Communities Newsletter. This newsletter provides updates on all things cancer care and treatment, as well as opportunities for community engagement and partnership working.

Bowel Cancer Awareness

This October we supported a campaign to help more people recognise the signs and symptoms of bowel cancer and encourage them to contact their GP practice early with any concerns. In the UK, over 40,000 people are diagnosed with bowel cancer each year.

The campaign saw advertising on buses, trams and the underground, as well as social media posts and lots of grassroots activity thanks to our community partners.

NHS Cervical Screening Programme Providing Digital Results From September

From September, the NHS Cervical Screening Programme started sending results digitally via the NHS App. Patients with negative results receive an NHS App message and notification. If the App message isn’t read within 72 hours, a letter is sent. Abnormal results will continue to be delivered by post.

This change follows the successful rollout of digital invitations and reminders in June 2025. Please encourage your communities and networks to download the NHS App and enable notifications on their smart phones.

Cancer Care Map

The Cancer Care Map is a simple, online resource to help you find cancer support services in your local area wherever you are in the UK.

It provides a range of support service information about activities, groups and therapies to help people and their families and carers.

HPV Vaccine

The HPV vaccine helps protect against human papillomavirus (HPV), a group of over 100 related viruses.

Vaccination lowers the risk of developing a number of cancers linked to HPV, including:

  • up to 90% of cervical cancers

  • certain mouth and throat cancers

  • some anal and genital cancers

In England the HPV vaccine is offered at secondary school to all children from year 8 (age 12-13). If a young person misses their vaccination while at school they may be able to have it at their GP or a catch up clinic up to the age of 25.

RM Partners Digital Charter

As a Cancer Alliance we strive for digitally enhanced care that is effective and inclusive. We know that technology has a huge role to play in healthcare, whilst also supporting patient choice and equity across all cancer pathways.

With this in mind, we have developed our Digital Charter, outlining our key principles in the move towards digitising cancer care across north west and south west London.

Help Us, Help You Text Campaign

Earlier this year, we piloted a text campaign to encourage people to contact their GP practice if they were experiencing symptoms they worried might be cancer.

This work reinforced the NHS England 'jack in the box' campaign. As a result of the text campaign, almost 900 people booked or stated that they intended to book a GP practice appointment to discuss their concerns.
