Voice Scams and AI Voice-Cloning Webinar

Date: 29/04/2026
Time: 13:00-14:00

This session will be led by: PC Przemyslaw Walczak, Metropolitan PoliceCrypto – Prevent, Prepare, Protect, Central Specialist Crime

With welcomes from Our Safeguarding Ambassadors

Our Safeguarding Ambassadors are concerned that voice scams targeting older people have entered a dangerous new phase, with scammers using Artificial Intelligence (AI) to clone the voices of family members and loved ones to make fraudulent phone calls—often requesting money for fake emergencies. These scams are highly sophisticated, exploiting trust and emotional vulnerability, with victims often reporting high-stress situations. The webinar will also cover a range of new and emerging scams.

Key Learning Outcomes

To increase your knowledge and understanding of:

  • Voice scams & AI voice-cloning: How criminals use AI to imitate familiar voices and create convincing, urgent scenarios.
  • Common tactics and red flags: Pressure to act fast, requests to keep it secret, unusual payment methods, and ‘verification’ tricks.
  • New and emerging scams (led by the Central Specialist Crime team): A briefing on current trends (e.g., impersonation scams, phishing/smishing, remote-access fraud, and investment/crypto-related fraud) and how to spot them early.
  • Support and Reporting: Knowing that victims are not to blame and understanding the importance of reporting fraud and seeking support.
  • Staying Safe Online: Learning good online habits to reduce the risk of cybercrime and enhance digital safety.
