Upcoming Community Workshops: Far‑Right & Islamist Ideology Awareness (In‑Person)

_PIwAYQQHCHNaV2p7-dt.jpgWestminster Prevent team is pleased to invite you to two upcoming in‑person community workshops designed to raise awareness, understanding, confidence, and practical skills around challenging harmful extremist narratives. These sessions are free and open to community members, volunteers, and local organisations. Each workshop is delivered by a different external specialist organisation, with both sessions addressing the two most significant risk areas currently present in West London. Leaflets with full details are attached.

  1. Far‑Right Ideology Awareness (2‑Hour in-Person Workshop)

Delivered by Small Steps

This interactive session explores Extreme Right‑Wing narratives, online/offline influence, and practical ways to challenge harmful ideas. It includes real‑life examples, critical‑thinking activities, and digital safety insights. This session will also look at how extremists exploit current social issuescontributing to recent far‑right protests.

The workshop will cover:

  • Factors that make individuals vulnerable to extremist ideas
  • Supporting others and where to get help
  • Risks linked to online platforms used by extremist groups
  • Misinformation and disinformation
  • Community resilience and real‑life connections
  • Warning signs and difficult conversations
  • Strategies extremists use on gaming and virtual platforms
  • Links between Extreme Right-Wing narratives and mixed ideologies, such as the Incel movement and the manosphere

  1. Islamist Ideology Awareness  (2‑Hour in-Person Workshop)

Delivered by The National Safeguarding Training Network

This session focuses on addressing misconceptions about Islam and exploring how extremist narratives misrepresent religious teachings for harmful purposes. It takes a safeguarding‑led, non‑stigmatising approach and includes an accessible Islam 101 segment.

The workshop will cover:

  • How groups such as ISIS and Al‑Qaeda emerged and how their ideologies developed
  • How extremist narratives manipulate identity, grievance, and global events
  • Islam 101: Five Pillars, teachings of peace, and Maqasid al‑Shariah
  • How extremist ideology differs from mainstream Islamic beliefs
  • Online radicalisation, digital grooming, and the role of social media
  • Early warning signs
  • Safeguarding responsibilities and pathways for raising concerns
  • Lived experience of radicalisation and disengagement
