Urgent Flu Advice:Public Health Information

NHS logo.pngFlu cases are rising. Flu can make some people seriously unwell, and it's important to look after yourself and others if you think you have it.

The flu usually starts suddenly and may cause a high temperature, body aches, tiredness, cough, sore throat, headache, or sickness.

If unwell, make sure you:

  • Stay home.
  • Wash hands regularly and ventilate indoor spaces.
  • Use a mask if you need to go out while unwell.
  • Keep children off school if they have symptoms of flu, diarrhoea or vomiting.
  • Avoid preparing food or visiting care settings for 48 hours after norovirus symptoms stop.
  • Remember antibiotics do not treat viral infections.

Simple self-care measures such as resting, keeping warm, drinking plenty of fluids, and using paracetamol or ibuprofen can help ease symptoms.

Those who are older, pregnant, have long-term conditions, or have weakened immunity should seek advice if symptoms get worse or don’t improve.
