New three borough substance misuse service

Turning Point and Blenheim have been commissioned to provide the new substance misuse service in the City of Westminster, Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, and Hammersmith & Fulham.

This service is named the Recovery & Wellbeing network and will transform the way that drug and alcohol services are provided locally.

Turning Point and Blenheim are long established local providers of drug and alcohol services, with more than 90 years of experience between us. Building on our current provision we will provide services from community settings across the three boroughs to ensure that support reaches all in need. We will use the assets of the local community to reinforce permanent change and support sustained recovery.

We will especially focus on opening up the treatment system to new client groups and respond to new drug and alcohol trends. This includes extended opening times and close partnership working with other social care, health and support services in the local community.

We will operate from Hubs and multiple satellites across the three boroughs including:

  • 32a Wardour Street, Soho, London W1D 6QR
  • 209 Harrow Road, London W2 5EH
  • Acorn Hall, 1 East Row, London W10 5AR
  • The Old Coach House, 103a Devonport Rd, London W10 8PB
  • The New Coach House, 370-376 Uxbridge Rd, London W12 7LL
  • 61 Munster Road, London SW6 5RE

The new service will be opening on the 1st April, replacing the existing providers OASIS, CDAS, CASS, North Hub, CAPS, NWDAS and SWDAS.

Also opening on the 1st April will be the new specialist alcohol service provided by CRI.
Partnership working

We know from decades of local experience that good partnership working with other agencies and stakeholders will be vital to the success of this new service. We want to build on and expand our existing partnerships and multi-agency working in order to make a positive change for service users and their communities.

We are keen to keep an open dialogue at all times, to ensure seamless pathways between services and work with local residents, services and businesses to deliver this new and innovative service.

What will the new service look like?

Staffing - Led by our Medical Director Dr David Bremner the service will be made up of a multi-disciplinary team of specialist addiction doctors, nurses, recovery workers, Employment, Training and Education workers, family workers, peer mentors and volunteers. We will provide end-to-end consistent case management and support people on their recovery journey.

Quality assurance - The Recovery & Wellbeing service will continue the excellent quality of our existing provision underpinned by our robust clinical and corporate governance structures. Our central support services play a vital role in ensuring quality across both organisations and will support key staff locally to ensure the highest level of quality at all times.
Benefits of the new service

Easier access – More community locations, longer opening hours, home visits, three-way meetings with referrers, closer partnership working, wider platform for service user groups

Integrated services – The Recovery & Wellbeing service is part of the new wider Three Borough Integrated Treatment System including alcohol specialist support, GP Shared Care, group work, recovery social support and access to in patient and residential care.

A focus on sustained recovery and behaviour change – working holistically with each individual, we help them to achieve goals affecting areas across their whole life, not just work on their drug and alcohol use in the short term. This recovery culture is reinforced by the role of trained peer mentors, who have previously succeeded in treatment and mentor new clients on their journey.

Specialist support

Specialist services provided will include:

  • Opiate substitution prescribing
  • Blood borne virus support
  • Community detoxification
  • Access to in-patient detoxification and residential rehab
  • Integrated support for people in the criminal justice system
  • Needle exchange
  • Aftercare, including access to Education, Training and Employment opportunities
  • Family and carers support
  • Criminal justice pathways
  • Peer mentoring
  • SMART Recovery
  • Fellowships
  • Community heath, fitness, social and wellbeing opportunities

Implementing the change

We have met with the existing providers to ensure that information and systems transfer to us, and treatment for service users continues as smoothly as possible.

We will be holding a series of information sessions across the three boroughs to update and consult with service users about the change and future service delivery.

We will be meeting in person with as many stakeholders as possible to outline how the new service will be configured and distributing newsletters and other promotional materials to keep people informed.
