PAPYRUS Prevention of Young Suicide
PAPYRUS Prevention of Young Suicide is a national charity that spreads the message of hope. They support young people (under 35s) living with suicidal thoughts and concerned others/professionals who are seeking guidance to support their young person.
Papyrus train a lot of people within healthcare, education and anybody who is interested in suicide prevention - they offer a free 30-minute suicide awareness training session called a SP-ARK which covers the following objectives:
- To raise awareness of suicide and suicide prevention.
- To promote PAPYRUS – what we do, how you can help and how we can help you.
- To develop HOPE for a suicide-safer community.
- To understand the importance of self-care.
Their advanced training covers what kind of language should you be using when talking about suicide (SP-OT) and how to explore signs, encourage dialogue and exchange, and keep people safe through safety planning (SP-EAK). Please see an overview of the training at this link.
They offer a free literature pack per organisation which can be sent to your address which provides advice and guidance for supporting young people with suicidal thoughts. You can also view their digital resources for free here: Help and Advice Resources | Papyrus UK (papyrus-uk.org).
They also offer a free helpline service called HOPELINE247 (available in over 240 languages and BSL) which can be used by someone who is 0-35 years old living with suicidal thoughts who is seeking support. Concerned others can utilise our phoneline to receive guidance and it can be used as a debriefing service.
